About Us

  • The Marin Gun Safety Collaborative focuses on sharing measures that everyone can take to prevent firearm tragedies in our community.

    Led by the Marin County District Attorney's Office, we are a collaborative of Marin-based governmental and non-governmental organizations dedicated to raising awareness and providing outreach about firearm safety and prevention measures to prevent firearm tragedies, including firearm suicides, in our community.

  • Our mission is to reduce firearm tragedies, including firearm suicides, in Marin County through education and early intervention.

    We help people understand their options and encourage early action, before lasting harm occurs.

  • Firearm tragedies affect families and communities across Marin County.

    • About three in four firearm-related deaths in Marin are suicides.

    • Firearms are involved in about one-quarter of all suicide deaths

    • Firearm suicide disproportionately affects men, specifically those 60 and older

    • Veterans face a higher risk of suicide, and most veteran suicide deaths involve firearms—making prevention especially urgent.

    Early action and access to support and the right tools can save lives.


  • Access to a firearm significantly increases the risk of death.

    Firearm suicide attempts result in death about 90 percent of the time. When a firearm is not involved, the chance of survival is much higher—and most people who survive an attempt do not go on to die by suicide. 

    Removing access to a firearm during a period of distress can save lives. 

    Early action, access to support, and the right tools can make the difference between tragedy and recovery.
